The 'SIP' Enumservice

The Enumservice SIP points from a number to a Voice over IP address using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). This Enumservice is likely the most popular one, and is widely used to route voice calls directly over the internet (using VoIP) instead of using the plain switched telephony network.

Enumservice type: sip
Enumservice subtype: none
Valid URI schemes: sip, sips
Specified in: RFC 3764

The "SIP" protocol itself is specified in RFC 3261, and is very popolar in implementations of VoIP phones, gateways and services. The URI schemes 'sip' and 'sips' are defined in RFC 3261 as well.
